I
started brazilian jiu jitsu in July 2007 at the Academy of
Striking and Grappling.
Why
He Chose BJJ:
I
have been wanting to try jiu jitsu for a while because
of submissions, but the more I do it, the more
passionate I am for the art.
BJJ
Level:
I
am a one-striped white belt.
BJJ
Tournament Experience:
I
have one tournament under my belt; I won first place in
Gi. And I won second place in No Gi at the 2007
California Classic International.
Best BJJ
Experience:
My
best BJJ experience was getting my first stripe along
with my brother Josh.
Worst BJJ
Experience:
I
don't have a bad experience...all of them have been good
so far.
Heroes:
My
brazilian jiu jitsu instructor Anthony Del Valle and my
fellow teammate Pete Hurtado. I look up to them because
they have a lot of experience and I have learned a lot
from them.
Why
He Recommends BJJ :
Because
it is different than other sports. I have learned to not
be aggressive which other coaches have told me, but to
calm down; relax and just flow & everything will
come.
How
BJJ Made a Difference in His Life:
It
has given me something else other than wrestling to look
forward to and to set goals in. When I entered the
tournament I felt afraid of failure, but with my coaches
and my family by me; even if I lost I would have still
won. My coach encouraged me to work hard and just do
what I do.
Final
Comments:
I
enjoy brazilian jiu jitsu and I'm excited to see where
it brings me.
